Final evaluation

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? My research skills have improved tenfold, approaching essay writing in previous tasks, I’ve adapted a that will do attitude to research, whereas this assignment has lead me to find as much information as possible in as many ways as possible, I feel this shows in my bibliography. This in effect has bettered my understanding of the subject, offering differing opinions on the topic at hand. Also I’ve had to battle with my essay writing ability, its something I’ve never been able to get the hang of, and to approach that issue only helps and hopefully is showing some progress. Finally getting back in to the swing of setting my own brief, its great preparation for the summer break, incentivising me to properly utilize the time and do some self set work.

2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your practical outcomes?

I’ve gained a few research skills thanks to this project, as stated I used a broader selection to gather information than I usually would, using books, video and imagery as tools for learning and to convey my ideas from. Also to merge research with my visual outcomes, I typically adapt an approach that is as organic as possible, totally from my imagination, but using propaganda as reference for my final outcome offered some interesting results.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I’m quite proud of the sinister, authoritarian feel of the work, merging Nazi themes and elements of my own to build such a feeling. I should continue to consider what messages or feelings my work evokes. There are elements of the brief where experimentation has helped my project heaps, such as the mono printing work and costume planning; it ensured I got just the right outcome. There is absolutely more room for this approach in my practice.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?

A big shortcoming I feel is my essay writing ability, I have very little confidence in my ability to convey ideas and triangulate within my written work, this needs to be addressed and much more research on perfecting essay writing needs to be done on my part. In terms of visual, this may be on part of the scope I can see the project taking with more time, but I feel much more outcomes could come from the work, and If I had utilized my time in a better way, those outcomes could exist. This does at its heart come from time management, I need to allocate my time better for future assignments, rather than casting it aside for other projects.

5. Identify five things that you feel will benefit you during next years Context of Practice module?

Now having an understanding and experienced a year of the unit, I feel I wont be so completely lost approaching the tasks in the coming year, admittedly I’m still a bit hazy on some aspects of Cop as I write, unsure of whether I have completed tasks in the right manner, or if enough work has been completed, but I have enough knowledge to not feel the need to crawl under a rock. Allocating extra time for cop will only benefit the unit also, meaning more output, and more research. My improved ability to find resources will most definitely benefit the work having the drive and knowledge to delve in to the area earlier on in the process.
