Turns out I hit a jackpot with that
article, “Diamond is a global distribution network for comic retailers”, this
is their own description from their site. They happen to be ‘the’ comic
distributors, almost holding a monopoly on the distribution of comics. It would
be safe to say that their figures act as a pretty solid indication towards the
state of sales, and the industry as a whole.
There is one thing to consider though,
that hadn’t occurred to me previously. The sales figures are bad, but may be
even worse considering that this is the documentation of sales made to stores,
not what the stores are actually selling… I absolutely need to keep that in
mind for the essay.
