Exploring colour: Colour time capsules

I visited a comic signing during thought bubble, meeting the writer of this comic 'Judge Dredd: America', and was instantly struck by the use of colour. It strikes me as instantly eighties, with bold, vibrant almost neon tones. Weirdly it didn't come across as being dated, the opposite really, as the imagery somehow felt contemporary, as we seem to be looping in colour and style trends. This is interesting, can your use of colour be used to future proof, being done right, or can it subject your work to become a relic, much like the current average person choosing to avoid black and white film's because they are 'old and boring'.

Example of publishers deciding the colour work is dated, and actively re colouring to 'modernise'.
